Note that if someone has the paid version of Guitar Rig 5 Pro, you might not be able to use their patch if it utilized amp and pedal models not available in the free version.

While it comes with a lot of patches to make you sound like different artists, or different songs, or even different styles, you can also google around and find patches online to download that other people have made for free.

It is kind of complicated if you are unfamiliar with VST plugins or just getting started, so I made a how-to video to show step-by-step how to install and actually use Guitar Rig 5 player. You could set it up on your computer as a stand-alone application, or as a VST plugin inside Reaper, Audacity, Ableton, etc.

There’s a pro version as well, but the PLayer version is free. TH3 is one I played with for a while that I likes a lot, however the one I settled on that fit my needs best was Guitar Rig 5 Player.

There are a lot of good VST plugins that allow you to make your guitar sound like it is going through any amp head, cabinet, effects pedal, etc. The issue is external equipment… When you are cheap or broke, you likely don’t have one of every amp or pedal ever made to use when recording guitar. On its own, you can record some nice quality music. Reaper is a full-featured DAW (Digital Audio Workspace) complete with pitch correction, MIDI and tons of other great features and plugins. Reaper’s free version doesn’t have limitation in functionality, but does have a nag screen that pops up for 10 seconds when you start and you can’t use it commercially.

I already used Reaper for recording for the last 10+ years, so I finally paid for the full license (only like $60). Since I preordered it before Christmas I got to download it and will receive it once it’s released with his last CD “212.Some time ago, I got interested in modeling different amps and effects when recording guitar. His tone, articulation, melodic sense and shredability are off the charts.

He is such a melodic player with insane chops. I just ordered his upcoming CD “Clyde The Cat” and it’s great. Lastly, let me say guitarist Neil Zaza is HORRIBLY UNDERRATED. I never paid them any mind before a week ago. PS: I’m hopelessly hooked on the new Stone Sour songs “Gone Sovereign/Absolute Zero.” Funny. What are your thoughts? What’s your setup and what would you change if you could. LOL!!! Here’s another option… do you change PICKUPS in your guitars? I guess, most of our heroes use pedal in front of their famed stacks of tube amps… but at WHAT POINT do you decide to get a new amp and move on? Or do you just keep buying pedals (more quantity and variety?). is it time to get a new amp? One that likely might be much more expensive? One that has the needed “gain” on tap? Or is it fine to get a boost/drive pedal to “push the amp” a bit harder to get to sonic nirvana. * Let’s say you have a nice Tube Amp… has the features you like, sounds great overall, etc… but just lacks that certain “Je ne sais quoi?” Maybe needs that little “boost” for leads or just for heavier type of stuff…Īt this point. We all know the “Holy Grail” of Tone lies somewhere in the realm of glowing glass… =), but when do you know you have the “right” amp? Now, this probably applies more to rock/metal players but is applicable across the board. Just had a quick thought I wanted to share with and run by you… to get your feedback and thoughts… Since I preordered it before Christmas I got to download it and will receive it once it’s released with his last CD “212.” I also found a killer filter bank/harmonized part in Guitar Rig 5 that I already have riffs and ideas for a song. I plan to record a simple track with different guitar sounds to make a decision on what I want for the CD. The idea is to get the wall of sound with fewer tracks and its promising. Sooooo I’ve begun tweaking that preset and adding some more “mics” to it and using the Control Room Pro feature to it fullest in Guitar Rig. I’ve gotten compliments on it and it’s growing on me. Also, after doing the Tone King Holiday contest I just threw down a quick preset from Guitar Rig 5 to finish up the guitar audio to import back to the video…. I picked up a Samson CT20 clip tuner and it’s pretty slick. So stay tuned for progress on the writing. I’m beginning the process of writing material for my 2012 opus, and I have high hopes for a seriously rocking disc.
